The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea Review

Wow. This fantasy book blew me away! Storms have ravaged Mina's homeland for years, and every year, the villagers sacrifice a girl to the Sea God in hopes that the seas will calm. This year though, Mina sacrifices herself in place of the bride, hoping to save her brother's love and her homeland. The magical land hidden below the sea is nothing like she expected, but everything isn't as it should be either...

Wow. This book blew me away! Set in a magical fantastical world, this book is a must read. Bonus points for such a gorgeous cover 🥰

Storms have ravaged Mina's homeland for years, and every year, the villagers sacrifice a girl to the Sea God in hopes that his anger will abate, and the seas will be calm. This year, the bride will be Shim Cheong, the most beautiful girl in the village, and Mina's older brother's love. Taking her place, Mina sacrifices herself in hopes to save her homeland, but the magical land hidden below the sea is full of wonders and nothing like she expected, yet things are not as they should be. With unexpected allies, Mina races to wake the Sea God from an enchanted sleep and fix the storms, in a land where there are those that would do anything to prevent Mina from succeeding.

There's something very riveting about this tale, and this book was the perfect blend of Asian folklore and fantasy that kept me reading from the first page to the last!

I fell in love with the characters and their journeys! Even though I couldn't always be there with the main character, I could definitely feel her emotions. The strength and determination of Mina, and her willingness to sacrifice even love for her homeland's safety made the book even more emotional. So much so that after about the 50% mark, I couldn't go ten minutes without sniffling at some plot element, quote, or the other :D I cared about Mina, her quest, and all the people who helped her. Not only did Mina find a place in my heart, but all the supporting characters too. Her newfound friends, family, and especially Shin (because I think I fell in love with the romance as much as the characters)!

I know the author doesn't have any plans to write another book in this realm, but that doesn't stop me from hoping for a spin-off just for Naigmi and Kirin. Those two absolutely need their own book! And I'm dying to see their backgrounds explored further.

I would highly recommend reading this book for anyone who enjoys fantasy and especially myths/folklore turned fantasy. This is, without a doubt, (in my opinion) Axie Oh's best book so far!

Six Crimson Cranes is one of my favorite books! It follows Shiori, who is also trying to break a curse, but one that was placed on her and her brothers. It's another very engaging book with great characters and a really sweet romance ❤️. And of course, it also has a gorgeous cover! It's a duology (Six Crimson Cranes and The Dragon's Promise) and there is also a spin-off called Her Radiant Curse.

Spin the Dawn, also by Elizabeth Lim, centers around Maia Tamarin. She's a determined, gifted tailor who travels to court in her father's place for the chance to become the imperial tailor, what's she's always dreamed of. There's just a small catch...she has to compete against 11 other tailors all vying for the same position. The competition might be fierce, and she might be getting too much attention from the court enchanter, Edan, who seems to see right through her disguise (can you see where that's going?), but nothing could have prepared her for the final challenge....
