The Holiday Switch Review
The Holiday Switch is a cute festive read to enjoy around the holidays! Written by Tif Marcelo, it’s about Lila Santos, a senior spending her winter break in her holiday themed hometown of Holly. She works at the local bookstore/inn and as an anonymous book blogger. Then, in comes Teddy Rivera. She and Teddy constantly argue and butt heads about everything (can you see where this is going?). Until one night they accidentally switch phones, learn a lot more about each other, and their secrets. This sets a lot of other things into motion and brings them closer and…I probably shouldn’t spoil it any further :).
This is a nice book to get into the festive spirit! There was a lot of Christmas cheer going around, especially in Lila’s hometown of Holly. Lila herself is a big holiday fan, and her anonymous book blog (named Tinsel and Tropes – isn’t that name perfect?!) centers around holiday (paranormal) mysteries. This is such a cool genre, I’m intrigued, and I immediately want to go grab the next holiday mystery I can find. I also love how the author included the actual blogs in the book. I really got to know Lila better through her writing, and it also made the book more interesting and fun. I couldn’t wait to read Lila’s next blog post! There was something about how Lila wrote the blogs that had me captivated! She asked some pretty deep questions in the beginning, looked at the book through those questions, and then offered her opinion, as well as pros and cons of reading the book. Where can I subscribe to that blog :)?
However, there were certain parts that I found a little confusing. For example, Lila’s siblings often referred to her as ‘Ate Lila’. I didn’t understand why until about more than halfway through the book. Maybe I just missed it, but it was confusing not knowing earlier.
Both the friendship and romance in this book were really good! I really liked how supportive Carm was, and even Teddy, about Lila’s blog and passion for writing. I think both really pushed her to follow her passion and dreams (which was a great storyline/theme).
Overall, The Holiday Switch was a nice, festive book that I would definitely recommend!
